Annual Ball 20th September 2019

WOW what a night, it was fabulous. The setting was the Aviation Suite, Thistle Hotel Heathrow, which has beautiful chandeliers, candelabra on perfectly arranged tables, soft lighting that was subtlety changed to suit the mood, and a large dance floor, perfect.

The positive comments we had on the meal, which was a choice of menu, was due to the Thistle’s very competent head chef, and very smooth running of service by Ricardo their Catering Manager, who could ask for more, well we did.
We had the fabulous Ross Mitchell Combo, whose music kept everyone up on the floor dancing and enjoying every minute, right to the very last waltz.
We had a fantastic demonstration by the exceedingly talented Latin World Finalists Troels Bager and Ina Jeliazkova. Everyone was enthralled by their fantastic dancing, choreography and characterisation, but I must give a special mention to their Rumba which was truly mesmerising.

Joining us on this wonderful night were our President Stephen Hillier MBE and his wife Jennifer, also, our invited guests Michael and Vicky Barr, legends in Ballroom and Michael and Lorna Stylianos, legends in Latin.
The evening went so well, it just flew by and before you knew it the last waltz was being played….some people had taken advantage of the Thistles generous overnight stay package whilst the rest of us made our way home….might I say in good spirits.

ANNUAL BALL 29th September 2018

“Yet another fabulous promotion” words echoed by everyone that attended; other comments were - ”What a wonderful venue” - ‘’The food was comparable with Michelin Star” – “Such Fantastic Music” – “Terrific Demonstration”… all great ingredients for a very successful evening.  Let me put into perspective the reason for some of these compliments…

“What a wonderful venue”, well that would be the Aviation Suite, Thistle Hotel, Heathrow; such a glamourous room lit by huge chandeliers with customised lighting and lovely candelabras on beautifully laid tables, they certainly pulled out all the stops and did everything to perfection.

“The food was comparable with Michelin Star”, it certainly was.  It was not a set menu, everyone had a choice of starter, main course and sweet and it was all cooked to perfection, the serving staff were very pleasant, fast and efficient, it went like clockwork right down to the last fresh coffee.

“Such fantastic Music”, well of course as we would expect no less from the legendary Ross Mitchell, he had everyone on the floor enjoying their dancing right up to the very last minute.

“Terrific Demonstration”, it was a very beautiful Ballroom demonstration given by Alexander Zhiratkov & Irena Novozhilova.  They are the Russian Champions and in the top six at every major competition and they did not let us down, with great dancing and such beautiful gowns.

All in All it was a wonderous night attended by some of our top Great Ballroom Professionals, Richard and Ann Gleave, Michael and Vicky Barr, Kenny and Marion Welsh, who were up dancing and enjoying the evening.  There were also many schools who booked tables, and loyal supporters, all who were responsible for the very kind comments.

Our Compere for the evening was Ken Day, who as usual kept everything running smoothly and on time.  Our Chairman Colin Mansbridge was responsible for playing his great music while Ross took his break. Our President Stephen Hillier MBE was in attendance with his wife Jennifer and did commentary for Alexander while Irena changed her gowns.

‘What a wonderful night’

….. just one of the compliments made about the evening run by the Dancers’ Forget-Me-Not Fund held at the Leatherhead Leisure Centre on Saturday 17th March 2018, and, of course, there were many more throughout the evening.

The evening got off to a great start with fabulous, cleverly chosen music played by Elaine Hardy, accompanied by her daughter, she had everyone up and dancing throughout the evening, paused only by the fantastic demonstration given by Michael and Lauren Hemera. The crowd loved every minute and it was easy to see why, they are lovely dancers portraying the true meaning and character of each of the Latin dances, Lauren also enhanced the show by changing into a host of beautiful dresses.

The evening ran smoothly due, in no small part, to Ken Day who was comparing… it was obvious to all that he thoroughly enjoyed every minute, as did everybody there.

The raffle was a huge success, helped by Sandra Dear who sold so many tickets during the evening, and some great prizes, donated by various people on the Funds committee and loyal supporters.

The committee would like to thank all of those who attended and helped make the night such an amazing event, and all of those who continue to help us with advertising, which resulted in a magnificent sell-out night.

On Saturday 21st October Tom and Pat Lait presented the East of England Ball at the Ipswich Hotel on behalf of The Dancers’ Forget-Me-Not Fund. The hall was beautifully decorated with a complimentary drink on arrival and an excellent 3 course dinner. During the evening the Ken Bateman Quickstep trophy was won by Stephen Peirce & Michelle Hamilton and we were treated to an excellent demonstration by Ben Taylor and Stefanie Bossen performing their first Professional show. The superb music was provided by Bruce Lait making an enjoyable and successful evening.  The President and Committee of the Fund would like to express their thanks to Tom and Pat Lait their family and all those who helped out and attended the function. Donations like this enable the Fund to carry on supporting sick and injured dancers.

Dancers' Forget-Me-Not fundraiser

On Saturday 28th October, Dance Addiction Studios in Southfields, Wimbledon hosted their annual Strictly Halloween ball. It was a great Social evening with plenty of social dancing as well as a hot buffet. In addition, 6 students took part in a mini ‘Strictly’ event with their teachers and there were demonstrations from professionals as well as some of the younger members of the school.

Dance Addiction held a raffle at the event to raise money for the Dancers Forget Me Not Fund. (Principle Toni-Marie Foster was touched to have received a gift from them when in hospital earlier in the year). Consultant Public Relations Officer to the Dancers' Forget-Me-Not committee Vera Randall Noyce attended the evening to help judge the 'Strictly' event and present the awards.  £65 was raised and a brilliant evening was had by all.

Dance Addiction Studios run weekly tea dances and socials as well as party events throughout the year. For more information visit their website at
